Gesamtkunstwerk
Gesamtkunstwerk is the concept of a work of art or architecture designed with the highest level of art and craftsmanship with complementary design features intended to create a complete aesthetic harmony of all parts internally and externally. This concept is clearly at play in the chapel where every surface and architectural member, right down to the functional elements such as this elaborate brass hinge, are intended to create a harmonious whole.
